TAMPA - Two Tampa residents armed with a gun entered a home, and one of them struck a person in the head several times with the gun, Hillsborough County deputies say.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon in the 14000 block of North Nebraska Avenue.
Robert Burke, 23, and Chelsea Thompson, 22, both of 13827 Azalea Circle, were arrested at 5 p.m. Monday at their home. They were charged with robbery-home invasion, and Burke also was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
During the home invasion, Burke and Thompson entered the sleeping victim's home through an unlocked rear door and demanded his money, an arrest report states. The victim was struck three times in the head with the butt of the handgun.
He wasn't seriously injured.
Burke and Thompson say the victim owned them money, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said. The victim told investigators that he knows the first names of Burke and Thompson but that he doesn't really know who they are.
Witnesses saw Burke and Thompson leaving the victim's home and were able to provide investigators with a description and vehicle tag number, Carter said.
During a search of Burke and Thompson's home, investigators found a loaded 9 mm handgun in the bedroom closet.
