ZEPHYRHILLS - Co-coaches Troy Hochstetler and Greg Mathis didn't want their Zephyrhills Bulldogs to be Anclote's first victory.
So they pulled everything out of the playbook - a pooch kick to start the game, a fake punt and many different defensive looks. The results was the Bulldogs' second win of the season.
The Bulldogs won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half so Anclote chose to receive. Kicker Daniel Muir popped the kickoff over the Sharks front line and the Bulldogs recovered on the Anclote 33. Zephyrhills was stopped on fourth-and-goal at the 4, but Anclote quarterback Phil Linton fumbled the ball in the end zone and Anthony Viernes recovered the ball for a Bulldogs touchdown.
Anclote came back to take its first lead in a varsity game when Linton connected with Travis Hendrix on a 16-yard touchdown.
Zephyrhills regained the lead on the next possession as Chris Reaves connected with Michael Peterman from 22 yards out with 9:33 left in the first half and again with 6:22 remaining on an 81-yard pass to Jamal Roberts.
Reaves finished the game 4-for-7 for 155 yards and Roberts had two catches for 99 yards.
