GIBSONTON - Armwood struck early and often, piling up all kinds of yardage - offensively for 456 yards and 226 yards in penalties - in a victory against East Bay.
The game started with a 31-yard touchdown pass from Josh Grady to Matt Jones, followed minutes later with a 50-yard touchdown to Richard Jules. That was followed by a 23-yard touchdown pass to Rayshied Melvin from Jules.
By the time the first quarter ended - which also included an 80-yard touchdown run by Jones - Armwood (8-1, 3-0 Class 4A-District 9) led 27-7 and several Armwood players, namely Jones and Grady, had racked up stats that seemed more fit for a complete game: Jones had rushed four times for 95 yards and had two touchdowns and Grady had completed three of five passes for 96 yards and a touchdown.
The victory clinched home-field advantage for the first round of the playoffs for the Hawks.
Frustrations for the Indians (5-5, 1-2) mounted in the second half as their kicker, Forrest Meredith, and quarterback Aaron Mills, got knocked out of the game after jaw-dropping hits.
