TAMPA - Tampa Catholic's quest for an undefeated season will continue after a 38-20 victory against division rival Avon Park on homecoming night.
On the game's opening drive, the Crusaders (8-0, 4-0 Class 2B-District 5) needed only five plays to go 51 yards before Christian Green ran for a 13-yard score.
A fumbled snap on a punt gave the Crusaders excellent field position at the Red Devils' 39-yard line. Three plays later, Tampa Catholic found the end zone again, courtesy of a 13-yard rushing touchdown by Henry McCloud.
After forcing a punt by Avon Park (3-6, 1-3), Tampa Catholic struck on the first play of the second quarter with a 27-yard rushing score around the left side by Hunter Joyer to give the Crusaders an early 21-0 advantage.
The Red Devils cut TC's lead to 21-6 at halftime, but Green restored the three-score advantage when he found Jordan Jones for a 12-yard TD in the third quarter.
Jones would make his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball as well, recovering a fumble that was caused by a Logan Meilke sack on the ensuing drive.
