TAMPA - On a chilly night, Freedom coach James Harrell got a freezing but rewarding Gatorade bath as the Patriots clinched a playoff berth with a dominating performance against Brandon.
Amonty Delisca powered the Pats' offensive attack with 100 yards rushing. With 1:27 left in the game, Delisca pushed his way into the end zone on a 5-yard run to cap Freedom's scoring.
Quarterback Tyler Guy passed for 97 yards and rumbled in for a score from 1-yard out to put the Pats up 6-0 with 7:38 left in the second quarter. Robert Lohnes also had a big night receiving with 74 yards.
Freedom's defense was the determining factor in the game, recording its second shutout in a row. With Brandon marching downfield late in the fourth quarter, Keith Lewis recovered an Eagle fumble and took it back 60 yards for a touchdown to increase the Pats' lead to 16-0. On the ensuing Brandon drive, defensive back Tyrell Nunn came up with an interception with 4:08 left in the game, setting up Delisca's eventual touchdown to end the scoring for the game.
Freedom will try to carry its momentum through the rest of the season and into the playoffs as it has won four games in a row and earned the Class 5A-District 7 runner-up spot.
