TAMPA - Tampa Bay Tech (7-1, 3-0 Class 5A-District 7) scored touchdowns on two of its first three possessions and then let its defense take over as the Titans cruised to a victory against Wharton (2-7, 1-2).
TBT opened the game with a 13-play, 80-yard drive for its first score. Quarterback Jonathan Williams found tight end Allen Covington for a 15-yard touchdown.
After the Titans forced a three-and-out, Maurice Hagens scored Tech's second touchdown from 3 yards out.
Cludner LaCount's 3-yard scoring run gave the Titans a 20-0 halftime lead.
Tech's offense sputtered in the second half, but its defense dominated the Wildcats all night, limiting them to 22 yards rushing and 64 passing.
Wharton's best scoring opportunity came after David Larry caught a 50-yard pass from quarterback Tanner Stocker, setting up the Wildcats on the 5-yard line, but the drive stalled and they missed a 31-yard field goal.
Hagens ran 21 times for 145 yards, giving the fullback 1,009 yards for the season.
As district champs, the Titans will host 5A-8 runner-up East Lake on Nov. 20.
