TAMPA - A 26-year-old man kidnapped his wife, tried setting her on fire and then beat and cut her before deputies stopped the attack, the sheriff's office said.
Just after 10 p.m. Monday, Walter Dunn III punched and kicked open the door of a home at 107815 Drummond Road, an arrest report states. Marco Ramirez, who was inside, was cut in the face and shoulder by glass from the door.
Dunn grabbed his wife, Alison Aquino-Sanchez, by the hair, punched her and dragged her outside, Hillsborough County deputies say. He then drove her to 7419 Oakvista Circle, where he poured gasoline on her and tried setting her on fire in his garage.
When the lighter failed to ignite Aquino-Sanchez, Dunn cut her arm and tried cutting her fingers with garden shears, deputies say. He was still beating her when deputies arrived; Aquino-Sanchez ran out when the garage door was opened.
Aquino-Sanchez, 27, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. Her condition was not available today.
The arrest report doesn't say whether Ramirez was taken to a hospital.
Dunn was injured breaking open the door, deputies say. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he was treated and released to be booked into jail.
He faces charges of kidnapping, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and burglary of an occupied dwelling with assault.
Dunn remained in jail today; bail had not been set.
