Detectives arrested a Pinellas County detention deputy this morning while he was on duty and charged him with doctor shopping and prescription fraud.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said Michael Bowman was arrested following an investigation that started in August after the department received information he was getting treatment from more than one doctor with the intent to get prescriptions for hydrocodone and oxycodone.
He also was giving pharmacists fraudulent prescriptions, the sheriff's office said.
Bowman, 42, was arrested at the county jail at 11:30 a.m. He has worked for the sheriff's office since Feb. 18, 1996.
He faces charges of doctor shopping, obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and trafficking in a controlled substance, the sheriff's office said.
He is on paid leave until a department investigation is finished.
