Alonso's Bennett part of TV show
Alonso quarterback C.J. Bennett is used to watching himself on the big screen when his team breaks down game film. Tonight will be an entirely different experience.
That's when "The Ride" debuts at 6 p.m. on Sun Sports. The 10-part reality TV show follows eight quarterbacks, including the Ravens gunslinger, from across the country as they participate in various competitions with the ultimate prize of a roster spot in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Game on the line.
"The biggest thing I learned through this whole process is that there is a lot of competition out there," said Bennett, one of Hillsborough County's leading passers. "It has made me want to work that much harder."
The University of Wyoming commit began the filming process in Philadelphia this past summer at a drills competition. Cameras have followed him around through various other competitions and also have visited the Alonso campus.
Bennett and his teammates will be practicing when the 10-part series begins tonight, but he will TiVo the show and watch it later. He's prepared to be teased.
"I'm nervous to see how I come off," Bennett said. "I will be critiquing myself."
RECRUITING: Seffner Christian Academy will have a pair of athletes signing letters of intent at next week's early signing period.
Softball standout Nicci Hopps will sign with Southern University and one of the school's leading basketball players, Arielle Jadlowski, will sign with Southeastern University.
Hopps led the team last season with a .668 batting average, which included five home runs. Jadlowski was the Crusaders' second-leading scorer with an average of 12.2 points per game.
