An 81-year-old woman escaped her burning house in St. Petersburg this morning as firefighters arrived.
Bonnie Gettys was home when the fire broke out in the kitchen of her home at 7247 Organdy Drive N. about 11:25 a.m., St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue said.
The fire was under control in about eight minutes, and there were no injuries.
Investigators determined the fire started when an electric outlet behind a stove shorted. The fire department estimated the 850-square-foot home received $20,000 in damage.
The American Red Cross is assisting Gettys with housing.
