ST. PETERSBURG - A car struck a pedestrian Wednesday night and left the unidentified person in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
B. Gray Gibbs was driving his 2005 Porsche east on Ulmerton Road and approached 38th St. North. On the south shoulder of the intersection, a group of friends was gathered, FHP said.
The victim allegedly tried to walk northbound on Ulmerton Road but stopped halfway across the road, FHP said. The victim started to return toward the group, but for unknown reasons stopped in the middle of the road.
Gibbs' car hit the pedestrian, FHP said.
Gibbs, of St. Petersburg, suffered no injuries. The car had $10,000 worth of damage.
The crash remains under investigation.
