Man shot in gas station parking lot, police say

TAMPA - A man shot another man Wednesday night during a dispute at a gas station parking lot, the Tampa Police Department said.

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. at the Marathon gas station, 4949 Busch Blvd.

The victim was shot once in the abdomen. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital, said Tampa Police Sgt. Christopher Ugles, where he was listed in critical condition and was undergoing surgery.

The suspect fled the scene. Police don't know whether he fled on foot or drove off. A description of the suspect wasn't available.

Police don't know what the confrontation was about.

"We don't have a reason," Ugles said. "We are trying to work on that right now."

The victim wasn't the store clerk, Ugles said.

The department's District 2 office is handing the case.
