SAN ANTONIO - Denny's is coming to the Flying J.
The national restaurant chain that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner will replace Flying J's Country Market restaurant, said Jim Baker, Flying J's senior vice president of interstate operations.
Flying J, a truck stop that offers laundry and shower facilities, overnight parking for recreational vehicles, and a barber shop, among other amenities, is on State Road 52 just east of Interstate 75.
The Denny's portion of the travel plaza will be renovated over about 12 days, starting Nov. 30.
Country Market employed nearly 40 people who are expected to be retained by Denny's.
"They're interested in all our managers, and as far as I know everyone should keep their job," Baker said. "We're looking at doing this across the country with other major restaurateurs.
"In this economic climate the franchises are excited about interstate enterprises. It's a new frontier."
Flying J will remain open while the restaurant is renovated. The company operates more than 200 facilities across the country, according to its Web site.
The San Antonio/Dade City location, one of five in Florida, has 180 parking spaces for trucks.
Denny's operates more than 1,500 restaurants in the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Guam, Mexico, New Zealand and Puerto Rico, according to its Web site. The majority of Denny's are in California, Florida and Texas.
