Union bashing
This is in response to Donald Smith ("Union negotiations," Letters, Oct. 31).
I have never found more union haters than in Florida.
Wasn't it the unions that got child labor laws? Decent wages and benefits? Increased safety measures?
The average moron can't see past the end of their nose.
Smith had a good point about driving around Flint, Mich. Rather than look at the emptiness, try finding the mansions of the owners.
Union wages seem high to people here, but the cost of living is very different than Florida.
Does he realize business owners are still making money while laying off workers? Workers receive wages; owners weigh them.
Just like baseball fans hated the idea that players could not live off $1 million to $2 million compared to average workers.
No one thought anything of the owners making eight figures.
French Revolution, anyone?

Ungrateful Pakistan
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appears to be throwing all her cards to the wind while attempting negotiations with Pakistani officials after a recent three days of "bargaining" with American-bashing Pakistanis.
A McClatchey newspaper report noted that prominent women and tribesmen from the North West Frontier Province gave Clinton the same hostile message for America she has heard from students and journalists during her mission there: Pakistanis don't want an American alliance despite the fact that America has been throwing billions of dollars in funding at this nation.
Although Pakistan is willing to accept the $1.5 billion a year in American aid, it doesn't want to abide by the rules attached to the funding. And it openly admits it hates America.
The report noted one tribesman bluntly told Clinton: "Your presence in the region is not good for peace."
How's that for gratitude? Is that not a clear enough message?
It is time to stop this obscene waste of money in that ungrateful country.

Spiked
I watched the Florida-Georgia football game on Saturday. I'm a big-time Gators fan, but I can't get past seeing linebacker Brandon Spikes trying to gouge the eyes out of a Georgia running back's face.
I thought maybe I saw it incorrectly, so I rewound and played it again. No doubt. It was vicious.
I look at the kind of man quarterback Tim Tebow is, and then I look at Spikes, and I don't know if I can support UF anymore.
Can the Gators win without Spikes? I don't care. I'd rather lose with a man like Tebow than win with someone like Spikes.
