Our troops and their generals have to contend with our president and many in Congress who have deliberately diverted billions of dollars from the defense budget. Critical funds for our defense have been siphoned off for President Obama's government stimulus packages, bailout programs and many pork-barrel projects.
Islamic Jihad extremists have been attacking Americans for nearly 30 years, but far too many Americans go about their daily lives ignoring the fact that our troops continue to fight for victory in Afghanistan.
It is shameful that we allow our military to operate on a shoestring budget when we are fully capable of providing them with the very best in armor, state-of-the-art weapons and aircraft. Now is the time for Obama to stop stalling and allocate sufficient resources and troops for Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who is stationed in Afghanistan. The general deserves a real chance of success and cannot realize victory without the president committing the necessary resources.
I was surprised by the results of a recent Gallop poll that asked Americans to name the major problems facing our country today. Only 2 percent cited terrorism.
If possible, let us shake the hands of our active duty men and women and the veterans who have voluntarily served our country.
