TAMPA - At least 10 business attorneys have broken off from the venerable Fowler White Boggs laws firm to form their own firm.
Burton Wiand, a partner at Fowler White Boggs and a court-appointed receiver in the Arthur Nadel ponzi case, will chair the new law firm, which is called Wiand Guerra King P.L. Other Fowler White partners who have left the downtown Tampa firm are: George Guerra, Peter King, Kacy Donlon, Gianluca Morello, Elaine Rice and Michael Lamont.
Also, attorneys Robert Jamieson, Dominique Heller Pearlman and Maya Lockwood, who were not partners at Fowler White Boggs, have left the firm to join Wiand Guerra King, according to the firm's Web site.
Fowler White Boggs had a major shakeup in the summer of 2008, when one of its named partners, Bob Banker, broke away from Fowler White Boggs to form his own firm. About 60 lawyers also left Fowler White Boggs to join the new firm, Banker Lopez Gassler, many of whom practiced insurance law.
Rhea Law, chief executive officer of Fowler White Boggs, said the split with the Wiand group is amicable and wasn't done because of frustration with her law firm. She said Wiand is looking to become a boutique securities firm, with some specialization in court receiverships.
Wiand Guerra King will handle complex business matters, focusing on financial services, securities and investment-related litigation, a release said.
