Weapons typically associated with ninjas were found in the vehicle of a Dixie Hollins High School student this morning, according to Pinellas County sheriff's deputies.
But unlike the stealthy assassins made popular by movies and video games, the student who owned the weapons was caught.
Michael August Volpini, 18, of St. Petersburg, and two other people were sitting in a car wearing ski masks about 11 a.m. in the parking lot of the school at 4940 62nd St. N., deputies say. A witness spotted the trio and called authorities.
A campus monitor at the school went to the parking lot to investigate and found the car matching the witnesses' description. The employee blocked Volpini's car and called the school's resource officers.
When deputies searched the car, they found two ninja throwing stars, a three-bladed circular knife and a ski mask, authorities say.
Volpini told deputies that he and two friends had been in the vehicle earlier in the day "playing around" with the ski mask, the sheriff's office said.
The Dixie High senior was arrested and charged with possession of weapons on a school campus and taken to Pinellas County Jail.
