Mashelle Lembke stood on a runway at MacDill Air Force Base with family, friends and service members Thursday afternoon, waiting to accompany her husband's body to the city in which he was raised. Plant City soldier Eric Lembke was killed Oct. 23 in Afghanistan.
His body arrived in Tampa aboard a Dassault Falcon 20 jet. A hearse and 20-vehicle motorcade conducted the Army specialist to Hopewell Funeral Home in Plant City in preparation for his funeral Saturday.
The 25-year-old was raised in Plant City, attended Plant City High and graduated from Simmons Career Center in May 2002. In addition to his wife, he is survived by their children, Alexis, 6, and Nathaniel, 3. The family lived in Colorado while Lembke was on active duty.
Visitations services will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Plant City's First Baptist Church. His funeral is at the church at 10 a.m. Saturday, with burial to follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
