Pinellas County's tourist marketing outreach will use the subway in New York again this year, with the return of the "Station Domination" campaign, along with new advertising initiatives in taxi TV and the free amNewYork news publication.

Visit St. Petersburg/Clearwater will launch $300,000 in "unconventional" marketing programs in December in New York, the leading origin for visitors to Pinellas County, said David Downing, deputy director of the county's visitors bureau.

"There are 20 flights a day from the New York area to Tampa Bay, so we have not even begun to drill down on the New York market," Downing said.

Next month, a series of wall panels comparing New York and Pinellas scenes, such as a garbage can full of litter and a pail full of white sand, will cover the walls at the Bloomingdale's 59th Street subway station, one of the 10 busiest subway stops in the Big Apple.

In March, Pinellas will place wall displays at another station, perhaps the 34th Street/Herald Square station that was used last winter along with the 59th Street station.

The visitors bureau in December expects to launch a new website at VisitStPeteClearwater.com that uses iPhone-type navigation that permits side-to-side access to panels.

A new set of videos using a You Tube format rather than slick presentations will focus on various Pinellas tourism spots on the new website
