GAINESVILLE - - Weekly distractions seem to have become par for the course this season for No.1 Florida.
But UF coach Urban Meyer said Thursday that he isn't worried about his team's preparation for Saturday's game against Vanderbilt following his decision to suspend star LB Brandon Spikes for sticking his hand inside the face mask of Georgia RB Washaun Ealey.
Meyer faced national criticism this week after he initially opted to suspend Spikes for just the first half against the Commodores. The All-American announced Wednesday that he and coaches decided it would be in the team's best interest if he sat out the entire game.
"The distractions are part of the deal. I'm trying to think of a game we didn't have a distraction this year," Meyer said. "We're a perfect 8-0. That's pretty good."
NO ACTION FROM SEC: Meyer said he has not been contacted by the SEC league office for comments he made during his Wednesday teleconference criticizing officials in Florida's game against Georgia.
Meyer said referees should have flagged Bulldogs LB Nick Williams for a late hit on QB Tim Tebow.
Meyer sent video of the play to Rogers Redding, the league's coordinator of officials, but declined to reveal what the SEC told him.
INJURY REPORT: WR Deonte Thompson (rib) and RB Chris Rainey (shoulder) will both play Saturday after being held out of contact drills this week. LB Brandon Hicks is out with a hamstring injury.
