Published: November 6, 2009

TAMPA - Outspoken sports radio host Dan Sileo was back on the air this morning, a week after he was suspended by WDAE, 620 AM, and the station retracted his report about the finances of the Glazer family.

On Oct. 29, Sileo quoted a "friend" who works with the Securities and Exchange Commission as saying the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' owners lost $440 million in the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme. He also surmised that the Bucs were for sale.

Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer said the report was "baseless, irresponsible and slanderous."

Sileo was back in his 6 to 9 a.m. time slot today, making no mention of the report, although he briefly joked about his "sabbatical" and the "fat" photos of himself that have accompanied news reports of his suspension.

WDAE, which has a contract to broadcast the Bucs games, posted a retraction and apology for Sileo's statements on the station's Web site a week ago: "During a broadcast Thursday on WDAE, morning host Dan Sileo made some statements about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Glazer family that were factually incorrect. We sincerely apologize for those statements and hereby issue a full retraction."

On Monday, a station official said that an internal review of the incident was still under way.

Darek Sharp filled in for Sileo during the suspension. Sharp also covers high school sports for The Tampa Tribune.

Madoff is serving a 150-year prison sentence after he admitted losing billions of dollars for thousands of clients.
