PENSACOLA BEACH - PENSACOLA BEACH (AP) — Emergency leaders in Escambia County are encouraging residents of Pensacola Beach and nearby Perdido Key to evacuate as Hurricane Ida approaches.
The county declared a local state of emergency late today.
Officials canceled public schools for Monday and Tuesday and said they would begin opening emergency shelters at 10 a.m. on Monday.
Emergency officials have also encouraged people living in mobile homes and anyone living in flood-prone areas of Florida's westernmost county to leave before Ida makes an expected landfall Tuesday morning.
Heavy rains, high winds and possible flooding are expected with the storm.
