ST. PETERSBURG - A truck slammed into a community officer's vehicle Tuesday night and injured two people where an earlier crash was being investigated, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
A highway patrol community service officer was working a crash scene that involved a pedestrian about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The crash happened on northbound U.S. 19 just south of Tampa Road.
The officer was parked in the left-turn lane, and the officer and pedestrian were in the road.
A truck driver lost control and slammed into the officer's vehicle. The officer and pedestrian were thrown to the ground.
They were taken to Bayfront Medical Center. The officer was in stable condition and the pedestrian in critical condition.
The condition of the truck driver wasn't available.
