TAMPA - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers probably have lost reserve safety Will Allen for a while, perhaps even the remainder of the season.
Allen had surgery on Tuesday to repair a right thumb injury he sustained during the Bucs victory Sunday over Green Bay.
The Bucs will probably go with Corey Lynch as their third safety for the time being, or they may add a safety to the roster today.
Lynch is a player the Bucs have been anxious to see since signing him away from the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad in late September.
The Appalachian State product was a sixth-round pick of the Bengals in 2008. He spent most of that season on injured reserve following a knee injury.
