Red-light cameras

Having driven in the Middle East (Doha, Qatar) with red-light and speed cameras, I witnessed more accidents than they prevented, and there were more violent crashes. Drivers slamming their brakes to minimize tickets were very common and did not subside with education. Drivers just worked around them.

Salute the flag

I was fortunate enough to be able to march in the Town 'n Country Veterans Day Parade on Saturday.

It was very disappointing to see the number of people who don't stand when the American flag passes. This is something that should be taught in our schools.

For crying out loud! Semi-naked students participating in sports at our local schools?

Easy solution: Wear your shorts down to your knees with your Hanes showing for all the world to see.

Apparently it's accepted behavior in Tampa.

Bonus or raise

About your Nov. 5 story on transit chief David Armijo saying that he is willing to forego his bonus but wants his raise: With the hundreds of thousands looking for work just to get by, you would think he could eke out a living on his $174,700. That's not exactly standing on a corner with a "will work for food" sign.

What about people?

When I read a sentence like this - "The public option has come under fire from critics concerned it would hurt insurance companies" - it makes me sick. There is something wrong with a nation that puts the health of insurance companies ahead of its people.

How did we get to be a nation that cares more for insurance firms than people?
