'The Ugly Truth'
Katherine Heigl is an uptight TV news producer. Gerard Butler plays the sexist pig brought in to goose the ratings of her failing morning show. In spite of their obligatory mutual dislike, he becomes her romantic coach, counseling her in the ways of push-up bras, vibrating panties and the suggestive consumption of junk food. R, 95 minutes
'Up'
Pixar dazzled the world again with this heartfelt (but never cloying) story of an old man (voiced by Ed Asner) pursuing long-deferred dreams. In this case, that means setting his house afloat to explore a mysterious South American plateau and the eccentric explorer (Christopher Plummer) who tethers his own airship there. An 8-year-old stowaway comes along for the ride. PG, 96 minutes
'Spread'
Ashton Kutcher got props for straying from his comedic persona in this drama about a young hustler who earns his keep by romancing older women. In the movie, his main squeeze is a successful fortysomething lawyer played by Anne Heche — at least until a female version of his player self comes along to make things complicated. David Mackenzie directs. R, 97 minutes
