People who live in Building 8 at the Manatee Woods apartment complex in Bradenton cannot stay in their units after a smoky fire raced through three apartments today.
Residents say the fire began around 11 a.m. on a lower floor, end unit and spread upward to two upper units at the complex, 358 34th Ave. Drive E.
The 2-alarm blaze caused extensive damage, burning through the roof and rear wall of one of the upstairs units.
About 20 people are out of their homes, including several who had no fire damage, but have had their water, electricity and gas shut off as a precaution.
While everyone got out safely, those with heavy fire damage lost all of their belongings.
