TAMPA – The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took another hit in an already thin defensive secondary Wednesday when they announced they have lost safety Will Allen and reserve linebacker Rod Wilson for the remainder of the season.
Both players were placed on injured reserve after suffering injuries in the Bucs' 38-28 victory Sunday over Green Bay. Allen had a broken thumb, the same injury that sidelined starting safety Jermaine Phillips earlier this season.
Allen, who was the team's special teams captain, played in the first eight games for the Buccaneers, starting two games and recording 21 tackles.
Wilson also saw action in all eight games, mainly on special teams.
The Bucs re-signed linebacker Matt McCoy and promoted cornerback Derrick Roberson from the practice squad to take the place of Wilson and Allen respectively on the roster. The Bucs also signed safety Emanuel Cook to the practice squad.
This marks the third different time McCoy has played for the Bucs this season. He started the season opener when Geno Hayes was held out of the starting lineup for disciplinary reasons. McCoy was last released on Oct. 13.
