Man dead after shooting at gas station

TAMPA - A man was fatally shot just after 8 p.m. Wednesday outside a Citgo gas station at the corner of 22nd Street and Fletcher Avenue, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

According to a report, the victim drove to the gas station. Shortly after, an unknown man walked to the car and entered it, the sheriff's office said.

Shots were fired inside the car, and the assailant ran from the scene, the sheriff's office said.

The driver of the car got out and walked to the front of the gas station, where he collapsed. The man, who hasn't been identified, was taken to a hospital where he died, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office has little information on the suspect. It is thought that the incident might be drug related because of the quantity of drugs found in the victim's car, the sheriff's office said.
