PLANT CITY - The city is applying for more than $5 million in state and federal help with local road, sidewalk and drainage projects.

City Manager David Sollenberger, who outlined the projects for commissioners at their Monday meeting, said there is no guarantee the money will become available.

The following is a list of the grant requests. The list includes how much the city hopes to receive in state and federal dollars; the city would have to fund the remainder:

Park Road sidewalks from Park Road East to Reynolds Street; a grant would pay for all but $908,000 of the $4.5 million project.

Re-alignment of Wheeler Street from Alabama Street to Ball Street; a grant would pay for nearly $1.1 million of the $1.4 million project.

Mendonsa Road and Pinedale Drive drainage improvements, from Alexander Street to S. Hunter Street; a grant would pay all but $260,000 of the $1.3 million project.

Milling and resurfacing Alexander Street from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Mud Lake Road; a grant would pay for the $778,120 project.

Milling and resurfacing of Alexander Street from James L. Redman Parkway to Walden Woods Drive; a grant would pay for the $248,980 project.

Cherry Street traffic calming between Park Road and Wilder Road; a grant would pay all but $60,000 of the $640,000 project.

Traffic signal and intersection improvements at Jim Johnson Road and E. Alexander Street; a grant would pay half of the $598,000 project

Alexander Street sidewalks between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Mendonsa Road; a grant would pay $240,000 of the $300,000 project.

Sidewalks on Mendonsa Road, from Alexander Street to S. Hunter Street; a grant would pay about $177,000 of the $203,332 project.

Sidewalks on Laura Street from Knight to Warnell streets; a grant would pay about $100,000 of the $115,699 project.

The city is ready to start on the projects as soon as it receives the funding, Sollenberger said.
