GAINESVILLE - Saying the bottom line is to win, Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio defended how the Gators are playing this season and pointed to the statistics.
UF has 25 rushes of 20-plus yards in 2009 vs. 15 in '08. The Gators have three fewer receptions of 20-plus yards in '09, but the same number of 20-plus TD receptions (nine) as in '08.
Translation? Addazio thinks Florida (9-0 overall, 7-0 SEC) is going into Saturday's 3:30 p.m. game at South Carolina (6-4, 3-4) productive, but in a different way.
"This is a different team with a different identity," Addazio said after Tuesday's practice. "That's not necessarily a bad thing. There are some things we'd like to clean up. ... This team and last year's team or last year's team vs. '06, it's different cats, it's a different deal. Sometimes you hear that a lot and it's like, you've got to accentuate who your guys are."
"We're a really good rushing team. Why? We've got really good backs. Where are your explosive guys right now? Well, (TE Aaron) Hernandez has got a tremendous amount of explosives right now, he's an explosive guy, Jeff Demps has got a tremendous amount of explosives. Those are your guys."
LIKES GARCIA: Florida coach Urban Meyer said South Carolina quarterback and Tampa native Stephen Garcia is "night and day compared to where he was."
Meyer noted the Gamecocks have a lot of big, young receivers.
"Their future is real bright at South Carolina," Meyer said.
