GOWERS CORNER - Four people were flown to area hospitals in critical condition Thursday after a two-vehicle crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
A Pontiac Firebird and Chevy Blazer were southbound in the same lane on Kent Grove Drive just after 4 p.m. when the Blazer's left front struck the right rear of the Firebird, said Sgt. Larry Kraus, a FHP spokesman.
The vehicles spun out of control, with the Blazer rolling and ending on its roof along the east shoulder of the road, Kraus said. The Firebird also came to rest on the east shoulder of the road.
Officials identified the driver of the Blazer as Rose Mary Daniel, 59, of New Port Richey. She was flown to Tampa General. There were no passengers in Daniel's car.
There were three people in the Firebird. FHP identified them as driver Kenneth Lester Stewart, 36, of Spring Hill, and passengers Russell Monin, 23, of Spring Hill, and Nancy Morgan, 22, of Valrico.
Stewart and Monin were flown to St. Joseph's Hospital; Morgan was flown to Tampa General Hospital.
The crash at Kent Grove and Giddens Road remains under investigation.
