ORLANDO - Tarpon Springs' Kelsey Buckley, Sickles' Katie Cook and Katie Westbrook and Mitchell's Devin McCaffrey qualified in two individual; events for tonight's Class 2A state swimming championships at the Central Orlando YMCA Aquatic Center.
Buckley is the only No. 1 seed heading into the finals as the sophomore recorded the fastest time (2:08.09) in the girls 200 individual medley. She finished third in the 100 freestyle prelims but her time of 51.95 is good enough for all-american consideration.
Cook advanced in the 50 freestyle (24.33) and the 100 freestyle (52.47) while teammate Westbrook will compete in the 200 freestyle (1:55.56) and the 500 freestyle (5:06.58). Sickles also will have its 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay in the championship final.
McCaffrey, despite competing without his high school coach, advanced to the championship finals in the 100 butterfly (52.92) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.31). Mitchell coach Joe Lampkin was suspended Tuesday by school officials and did not make the trip.
Other local girls in the final heat tonight are Molly Sheridan of Holy Names (50 freestyle); Kelly Verheyleweghen of Tarpon Springs (100 butterfly); Mary Boucher of Osceola (500 freestyle); Kayley Chevalier of East Bay (500 freestyle); Rebecca Pindral of Wiregrass Ranch (100 breaststroke) and the Tarpon Springs 400 freestyle relay.
Joining McCaffrey in the boys finals are Chris Swanson of Jesuit (200 freestyle); Trey Went of Sickles (50 freestyle); Matt Tomlin of Osceola (100 breaststroke; Jesuit's 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay and Mitchell's 200 medley relay.
The finals begin at 5:30 p.m.
