Thanks for support
Organizers of the 16th annual Tampa Bay Veterans Day Parade would like to publicly thank the 25,000-plus spectators and 1,900 participants for their enthusiastic turn-out Saturday in Town N' Country. You have clearly demonstrated that the citizens of Tampa truly appreciate the sacrifices made by our local veteran population and those who stand in harm's way now.
We also express our sincere gratitude to the parade sponsors for their contributions, without which this parade would not be possible. Special recognition is due the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, District 3; Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department, and the Hillsborough County school district for their outstanding efforts in support of this important community event. Thanks for all you do.

This was terrorism
Amid all the theories, semantics and speculation about the motivation of what happened at Fort Hood - this was terrorism; no, it was not terrorism; it was mental derangement, etc. - two words settle the whole case: Allahu Akbar, "God is Great."
This was what the shooter reportedly said before this act of murder, and this defines what was in his mind at that very time. This was the same motivation in the minds of the Sept. 11 terrorists. This is very clearly about the power of deeply held religious beliefs on human minds.
Call it what you wish, to me it was terrorism.

Poor ad placement
There is something hopelessly wrong with the world. This is obvious even to me, a very normal 13-year-old.
This became very clear as I scanned Saturday's paper. Horrific images and articles screamed at me about the recent shootings and deaths.
Our newspaper was just doing its job, telling us the news just the way it was. After an incredibly depressing morning, I folded the paper and started to get up when I saw a giant red flag - an advertisement for guns. Irony of ironies, you choose this day to present this cheerful ad about half-off guns on the back of the Views section of the paper.
I understand that the paper needs money because of the slow economy, but still. Isn't there something so very callous about printing that advertisement today? Couldn't you have postponed printing the ad for a couple of days? I find this incredibly insensitive.

Property ownership
Contrary to what Eileen Hall wrote in her Nov. 6 letter ("Lenders are owners"), lenders are not in possession of the deed or title until the last payment.
The property owner's name is on the deed, which is recorded in the county where the property is located. If there is a mortgage on the property, it's recorded also.
The only way that the lender can become the owner of the property is by foreclosing the mortgage or by the owner deeding the property to the mortgage holder.

Union black eye
I am grateful for the quality of our Tampa police and firemen. But I am utterly disgusted by the insistence of these two unions that their pay and benefits be added to. On top of this, I get calls to support the police and fireman's associations with contributions. Very many of us have lost jobs or suffered major pay cuts. Are they too good to take a hit like the rest of us? My wife and I will never again contribute to these two associations.

Not so dumb
There are some in Congress who apparently believe the common, ordinary, everyday folks don't know much, but we are not as dumb as they think.
We will not vote for those who vote to increase our deficit, indebt our grandchildren, bankrupt our country and then vote for 2,000-page bills.
