SAN FRANCISCO - Frank Gore ran for 104 yards and a touchdown, Jay Cutler threw a career-high five interceptions with his last coming in the end zone on the game's final play and the San Francisco 49ers snapped a four-game losing streak by beating the Chicago Bears, 10-6 on Thursday night.

Niners quarterback Alex Smith won for the first time in eight starts since Week 2 in 2007, 17-16 against St. Louis - but it was interesting until the end.

After 49ers coach Mike Singletary elected to punt against his former team on fourth-and-6 from the Chicago 34 with 2:53 left, Cutler drove the Bears to the San Francisco 12 with 13 seconds remaining. After an incompletion on first down, Michael Lewis picked off Cutler's next attempt in the end zone as time expired.

BILLS: Coach Dick Jauron remains hopeful Terrell Owens will play against Tennessee on Sunday after a strained hip forced the receiver to miss his second straight practice.

BRONCOS: Denver's struggling offense will start ex-Buc Russ Hochstein at left guard on Sunday at Washington in place of longtime veteran Ben Hamilton.

COWBOYS: Center Andre Gurode (ankle) and safety Ken Hamlin (groin) have returned to practice on a limited basis.

DOLPHINS: Starting guard Justin Smiley was sent to a doctor Thursday and remains sidelined because of a shoulder injury, increasing the likelihood he'll miss Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.

Also sitting out practice for a second consecutive day were outside linebacker Joey Porter (knee), nose tackle Paul Soliai (ankle) and special teams contributor Erik Walden (hamstring).

REDSKINS: Clinton Portis' concussion will keep the running back out of Sunday's game against Denver. Portis was hurt in a helmet-to-helmet hit in the first quarter of Sunday's 31-17 loss to Atlanta.

Ladell Betts will get his first start since 2006, assuming he is able to play. Betts is nursing a sprained ankle and did not practice Thursday, although Coach Jim Zorn said he expects him to be available.

TITANS: Receiver Justin Gage has several broken transverse bones in his lower back, and he is unlikely to play Sunday against Buffalo.
