Lakeland man dies in early morning crash

POLK CITY - A Lakeland man died early Saturday when he was thrown from a car that crashed at the junction of Old Polk City Road and Commonwealth Avenue.
Brian Charles Dier, 29, of 407 Corona Del Mar, Lakeland, died at the scene of the 4:10 a.m. crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Dier was thrown from the 2008 Honda Fit after the driver, Heather Nicole Williams, 28, lost control of the car. Williams and Dier shared an address, according to FHP records.
The crash happened after the Honda, traveling on Old Polk City Road, failed to stop at the T-shaped intersection with Commonwealth. The car crossed Commonwealth, then abruptly veered left.
The car struck a guy wire, which caused it to spin in the road. Dier was thrown out as the car spun, the FHP said.
The crash remains under investigation. Charges are pending.
