Boating and fishing enthusiasts who frequent the Medard Park Reservoir in Plant City should enjoy it while they can.
The reservoir will be closed after Nov. 23 for a rehabilitation project designed to refurbish the bank to guard against erosion, Hillsborough County officials said. Construction is scheduled to begin in January and be completed by May.
In preparation for the project, which will lower the reservoir level by 12 feet, the boat ramp at Edward Medark Park will be closed to motorized vessels beginning Monday. The reservoir will remain open to canoes and kayaks until Nov. 23.
After that date, the reservoir will close to all fishing and boating. Signs will be installed around the top of the bank.
Other parts of Medard Park, such as camping and picnicking areas, will be unaffected.
The Southwest Florida Water Management District is in charge of the project. For information, call 1-800-423-1476.
