KING...28 DURANT...3
TAMPA - Sophomore quarterback Greg Windham led the Lions to victory with his strong arm.
Windham connected on three passes longer than 50 yards, finishing with 306 yards through the air. Receiver Quadrea Everett was the first recipient of one of Windham's bombs, catching a 53-yarder to set King up for a first-and-goal situation. The pass came with less than 4 minutes to go in the half and was a huge momentum shift for King. The Lions were down 3-0 in what was a defensive struggle up to that point.
After three unsuccessful attempts, King took a gamble and went for it on fourth-and-goal. Shawn Hibbert came through with a 4-yard TD run to put the Lions on the board with 1:28 left in the half.
On the following Durant drive, Herman Jackson picked off Je'Twan Smith to give King the ball back with 1:14 left in the half. Windham ran a keeper for a TD with 16 seconds left to put King up 14-3.
In the second half, Windham picked up where he left off, throwing a 57-yard strike to Reese Sturgis in the first 90 seconds. Sturgis later turned a short curl route into a 52-yard gain and caught a 7-yard touchdown on a slant. He finished with 144 receiving yards. Everett added 116.
