TAMPA - An officer deployed his stun gun on a pit bull Saturday night after the dog attacked a chicken, Tampa police say.
While investigating a domestic dispute about 11:22 p.m., Officer Richard Mercado saw a pit bull enter a 19-year-old woman's home in the 1800 block of North Armenia Avenue. The dog was chasing a chicken, and the woman was afraid that the dog would attack her 2-year-old son, a police report states.
Mercado chased the dog from the home, and the dog attacked a chicken at the rear of the home, according to the report. The officer deployed the stun gun because he was afraid the dog would kill the victim's chickens.
After the dog was struck, Mercado was able to get it into his marked vehicle, police say.
Hillsborough County Animal Services took the dog.
Details on the domestic dispute were not included in the police report, which was filed because the officer discharged his stun gun.
