Brooksville man dies after crash involving fire engine

A 26-year-old Brooksville man died Sunday night after his pickup was involved in a crash with a fire engine.

When the crash took place about 9 p.m., Christopher Carl Smith's pickup was heading east on Centralia Road in Hernando County and the fire engine was heading west.

For an unknown reason, the pickup traveled into the westbound lane and struck the left front of the fire engine, a Florida Highway Patrol news release states. The fire engine's driver and passenger suffered minor injuries.
