ST. PETERSBURG - A squad car driven by a St. Petersburg police officer collided Sunday night with a vehicle driven by a man who was under the influence, authorities said.
Neither the officer, identified as Gregory Shone, nor the occupants of the other car were seriously hurt, authorities said.
Shone was driving south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. with his lights and siren activated about 7:40 p.m., when a car came into his path at 20th Avenue South, authorities said.
The car was a 2000 Nissan Maxima driven by Lura Goldsmith of Greenville, S.C., and it was attempting to make a left onto Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St., authorities said. A 39-year-old St. Petersburg woman and a 5-year-old boy were passengers with Goldsmith, authorities said.
Shone tried avoiding the Nissan, but the front of his squad car struck the left front of the Nissan, and both vehicles rotated, with Shone's car striking a fence, authorities said.
All four people were taken to Bayfront Medical Center with minor injuries, authorities said.
Goldsmith was charged with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
