We're spellbound

I smile once again this year at the ironic situation I see at most Christian churches in the area these days during the October event commonly called Halloween.

Christian church leaders preach that Halloween is a holiday that celebrates evil and invites Satan into the lives of their parishioners if they participate. They say the practice of this holiday is only for witches. They now offer "fall festivals" or "harvest festivals" in their place. The reason that this is so ironic is that witches and other pagans do exactly the same thing.

The holiday is actually called Samhain and is a celebration of the final harvest of the season and the onset of winter. So the very thing your minister says that you should stay away from is exactly what they are presenting for you. Thank you to all the Christian churches that are keeping this wonderful tradition alive and spreading the true meaning of the holiday. Halloween is a commercialized candy-fest, and any connotation of evil is a Christian ideal born of the fear of the unknown.
