Frontier Airlines changes hands and moves Tampa ticket counter

Published: October 1, 2009

TAMPA - Frontier Airlines is expected to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today with little change that passengers will notice, although the airline shifted ticket counter and terminal operations at Tampa International Airport.

Frontier is flying from Airside C rather than Airside A and relocated its ticket counter on the second level of the main terminal to a nearby location visible from the longtime position, Tampa International executive director Louis Miller said.

The Denver-based airline is scheduled to become a subsidiary of Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings Inc. today.

Frontier posted 10 consecutive monthly profits through August, the latest data available. It filed for bankruptcy protection in April 2008 after its credit card processor held back 100 percent, rather than 45 percent, of its credit card transaction revenue before reimbursing the airline.

Frontier will retain its brand, including the distinctive logos of animals on its aircraft tails, Frontier spokesman Steve Snyder said Wednesday.

The airline flies one nonstop flight daily between Tampa and Denver, competing with United and Southwest Airlines on the route.
