TAMPA - A New Tampa real estate broker plans to challenge incumbent Tampa City Councilman Joseph Caetano in the 2011 elections.
Dean Hale filed his paperwork Thursday with the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office to run for the District 7 seat, which includes New Tampa and Sulfur Springs.
Hale, who works for Keller Williams Realty, could not be reached for comment.
Caetano, elected in 2007, has been beset by a series of personal financial troubles, including the loss of his salon business and coffee shop.
He also faces foreclosure on two investment properties in New Tampa, as well as his primary residence in Tampa Palms.
The first-term councilman is seeking re-election in 2011.
Council members serve four-year terms and are paid $40,000 annually.
