The Manatee County Sheriff's Office has charged a Palmetto man with murder in the wake of a fatal home invasion Thursday night.
Lamont Yarn, 19, who has no permanent address, was shot in the upper body during the incident at a home on Third Avenue Drive East in Palmetto. He remains hospitalized at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with a gunshot wound to the upper body, sheriff's spokesman Dave Bristow said today.
Yarn is a suspect in the home invasion that resulted in the shooting death of Patricia White, 43. Her son, Clarence White, 22, shot himself to death after his mother was shot, Bristow said.
A second suspect remains at large. Bristow had no description of that suspect today.
Four other people – three men and a woman – shared the house with Patricia and Clarence White and are considered witnesses to the shooting, Bristow said.
The witnesses told investigators Yarn and the other suspect entered the White home and began shouting, then shooting.
"This was not a random deal," Bristow said. "There were people in that house who had arrest histories."
Patricia White became the 22nd homicide in Manatee County this year.
