TAMPA - A Tampa police officer injured in a wreck this morning while responding to a motorcycle crash is recovering at home.
Officer Michael D. Noyes, 56, needed stitches to his arm, hand and forehead following the wreck at 46th Street and Whiteway Drive.
Police say Noyes, a 23-year veteran, was driving his 2003 Ford Crown Victoria to a crash at 30th Street and Fowler Avenue when his cruiser was struck by a 2005 Ford F-150 driven by George A. Malcolm, 53, of Tampa.
Noyes was northbound on 46th Street, traveling at 50 mph with his lights and sirens activated, when Malcolm tried to turn left onto 46th, violating the officer's right of way, police say.
Noyes' cruiser was totaled.
Malcolm was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital but details on his injuries weren't immediately available. He has not been charged or cited.
The investigation continues.
