University prepared for threat

I wanted to take an opportunity to applaud the faculty, law enforcement and support staff at the University of South Florida.

As a parent living more than 600 miles from my daughter, who is a USF student, I constantly worry about her safety. On Monday, when there was an emergency on campus ("1 jailed in USF lockdown," front page, Sept. 6), the texting alerts were timely and as comprehensive as possible. My daughter received four different campus-wide texts advising students of the current status and alerting them to the ongoing issue.

USF was well prepared, the system seemingly was flawless, and fortunately, everyone on campus is safe.

As a parent, it is reassuring to know that in the event of an emergency, the university is well equipped and ready to respond in an effective and efficient manner, ensuring the health and safety of its student population.
