DADE CITY - Cars made as long ago as 1929 and as recently as 2008 were on hand for the ninth anniversary of the Dade City Cruise-In.
"There were about 400 cars and 700 to 800 people," said Nita Beckwith, executive director of the Dade City Chamber of Commerce, which hosts the event. "It was quite a collection of cars, too, all different years and all different makes and models."
The event was held 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Besides food vendors and a disc jockey, WJQB, 106.3 FM, did a two-hour broadcast live from the location.
Beckwith said next year's cruise-in could include people's choice-style awards and door prizes. Cruise-ins are held downtown the first Saturday of every month.
"It was a little warm, so we were surprised by the turnout," Beckwith said of Saturday's event.
Allison Todd, who owns The Coffee Mug, said the event helps downtown businesses prosper. "It brings a lot of people to town who might not ordinarily go shopping on a Saturday afternoon," she said.
