PENSACOLA - The University of West Florida was on lockdown as police searched for a homicide suspect believed to have fled there.
A U.S. Marshals task force tried Tuesday to arrest Bruce Day at the power plant where he worked as a subcontractor. Authorities spent five hours there, monitoring entry and exit points and even searching with a helicopter.
Somehow Day fled, and a man fitting his description was spotted at UWF. Authorities also found a pickup there believed to be Day's.
An Escambia County murder warrant was issued Monday for the 42-year-old in the 2001 murder of Woodrow Allen. Authorities allege Day killed Allen to keep him from testifying on charges that Day shot a vehicle Allen was in.
The trial continued, and Day was convicted. Allen's body was never found.
