Citrus County mom backs car over toddler, killing him

A 2-year-old Citrus County boy died this morning when he went outside his home to retrieve a toy and was run over by his mother as she was backing a car out of the driveway.
Ace Watts was killed after his mother, Angie Watts, 32, hit him as she was backing up a 2004 Ford Explorer at 4875 N. Maple Terrace, Hernando, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The father was chasing after the boy when the child was struck about 8 a.m. today, highway patrol Sgt. Larry Kraus said.
The boy was pronounced dead at Citrus Memorial Hospital.
The incident is under investigation.
